We listened to some info on nutrition and portion size in class today and one of the things mentioned was a hormone that signals us that our stomach is full but that it takes TWENTY minutes for our body to get the message. This is called the satiation effect.
So, for homework, students need to try this at home tonight. When you are full, back away from the table and set a timer for 20 minutes. If you are still hungry, then finish the plate of food. If you are full, then you are satiated, or satisfied, as far as hunger goes.
If you want to find out more about BMI, Body Mass Index, google it. This was in the info from today's lesson.
Also, students, explain what you learned today about Plate Geometry and using your hand for a measuring tool for food portions.
