Holiday List of Needs

Hello Parents and Students,

I encourage all students to get involved in contributing these types of things to help the people of Bastrop.

These items include: liquid dish soap, paper towels, toilet paper, kleenex, toothpaste, tooth brushes, razors, shaving cream, body lotion, deodorant, general toiletries.

There is a collection barrel in the main office or you can drop it off with me in room 120.

How Your Child can be Eligible for I.B. Recognition

Hello Study Skills Students and Parents,

I am sending home with all current Merriman/I.B. Study SKills students some information about what students must complete to be eligible for I.B. recognition.

1. Complete at least 10 hours of community service. All hours can be entered on the I.B. typepad at murchison.typepad.com/ib

2. Submit a reflection of student achievement. This can be in almost any format, but must cover learning experiences leading up to the date of the submission on this application.

3. Course requirements: Students who take one semester of a language other than English and one semester of a fine arts class will be eligible for I.B. certification. Students who do not will still be recognized by Murchison's I.B. program. We encourage all students to submit an application this year.

Additional Notes:

1. All students taking a study skills class will have the opportunity to complete I.B. requirements as a part of that class. This includes the service and the reflection parts of the requirements above.

2. All submissions can be emailed to Mr.Newton or dropped in the black mailbox in from of room 120.

Welcome to IB Study Skills

What an exciting time of year! Mr. Newton and Ms. Merriman have enjoyed meeting our study skills children. We started out the week with an overall review of our course outline, rules, procedures, and expectations. We sent home this syllabus the first day and look forward to meeting you on back to school night.

We would like for your child to bring in a single file folder and a 100 page composition book to be left in the I.B. classroom. We are writing daily reflections, studies of current events, and notes on other subjects in the composition books.

Children have shared their reflections on their first day of middle school. It is nice to hear what went well and what they would add or change to their experience here at M.M.S. Their comment have been very positive about their teachers here and that was great to hear that they are comfortable and proud to be at the best middle school in the world.

Students have also started their first product assignment. And we will inform you more on that very soon. Have a wonderful first week of school !!!
