Week 1/5/12 - 1/6/12

Welcome back to Murchison!!!  Since Thursday and Friday are A/B days there is no homework folder or Table of Contents this week.

The assignment this week is from the Practice Workbook - pp. 56 and 57.  Be sure to show all your work (1. Write the formula; 2. Substitute numbers for the variables; 3. Do the math and don't forget your units).

We are starting the unit on Measurement which is a very big unit.  Students will be given a foldable to create that uses 7 sheets of colored paper.  We will completing the foldable for the next 3 weeks so do not lose it and you will need a thin line marker (NO SHARPIES) or a good gel pen.

Week of 12/12 - 12/16

There is no Table of Contents this week because it is the end of the six weeks (December 20th):

Monday (12/12):  We graded the NF's that were given after the Assessment last week and students were given a TAKE HOME QUIZ (Download Take Home Quiz).  They are to show ALL WORK and it will be turned in the next class period.  This take home will be considered for test corrections on the assessment for last week if it is needed and as your review for the six week test.

Tuesday/Wednesday (12/13 or 12/14): Students will have the opportunity to ask questions in regard to the six week test coming up and then we will begin an in-class project called "Inspiral Me" which deals with the Pythagorean Theorem.  Please bring your colored pencils for your use on this project!!!! The review for the six week test is in your Textbook:  p. 200 and be sure to look over your Numerical Fluencies - here is the answer key:  Download Answer Key to the review for the 3rd Six Week Test

Thursday/Friday (12/15 or 12/16): Six Week Test and finish your "Inspiral Project"

We are continuing with the unit on Pythagorean Theorem - there will be an Assessment this week covering Pythagorean Theorem and Irrational Numbers.

Week of 11/28 - 12/2

Tuesday/Wednesday - students are given an assignment today/tomorrow that involves making squares then finding the area so that they can find the side length.  Part of the instructions for their assignment is NOT to go home and ask an older sibling or parent to help them do the assignment.  I do not want you to show the child another way of doing the problem.  This assignment is an introduction to a unit that we will be spending the rest of this six weeks covering.  iT IS IMPORTANT THAT THEY HAVE A CLEAR UNDERSTANDING OF THIS CONCEPT.  Thank you for your cooperation. Week of 11/14 - 11/18

This will be a short week due to the fact that we will be benchmark testing this week.

Don't forget - Monday is your timed quiz on Squares and Square Roots - we made flashcards in class - you are responsible for all squares from 1-25 and all square roots of perfect squares from 1-625.

Week of 11/7 - 11/11

This is only a four day week - student's will not have school on Friday November 11th - for Veteran's day.  We will be following an A/B/A/B schedule this week.

There is not going to be a TOC - this is the last week of the 2nd six weeks.

Monday/Tuesday: Student's will be taking their six week test.  your review is due the day you take the test.

Wednesday/Thursday: This is catch-up day - students will be completing/finalizing all projects or assignments that are still open for turning in.

Week of 10/31 - 11/4

This week there is no Table of Contents

Monday:  Quiz on Indirect Measurement, Scale Drawings and Models and Scientific Notation - it was a short quiz.

Tuesday/Wednesday: - Students were doing their Portfolio Assessment (this is gathering various materials from the six weeks and answering some reflective questions about the six weeks) and finishing up their Quilt Projects.

Thursday/Friday: Students will be completing a review for their Six Week Test next Monday/Tuesday - next week is only a 4 day week so it will be an A/B/A/B schedule.  They must turn in their review when they take the six week test.  The test is cummulative so if a student passes (70+) then it can replace one of the other assessment grades that is lower.
