2012 Volleyball Tryouts

7th and 8th grade girls interested in trying out for volleyball next year must attain a physical

from a physician prior to the first day of school. Please use our AISD form. You can  pick one up from one of the coaches or in the main office.

Please hand this form to Coach Jefferson in Athletics class or after school at the tryouts. We will begin tryouts the first three days of school for the 7th graders. The 8th graders will begin tryouts the second day of school.  It is  important to be in attendance everyday. The more the coaches see you, the better you can be evaluated. After three days, the teams should be picked. (may only take 2 days for the 8th graders)

All girls who make the team are expected to attend practice daily till 5:30pm. Game days are Thursdays. They are expected to dress out daily in appropriate attire. (socks,tennis shoes, black biker shorts and a t-shirt)

Athletics class is not mandatory but is highly recommended by Coach Jefferson and Athletic Director, Eric Jackson. Last year the Lady Matador Volleyball Teams placed 1st at the Championship!  We are looking forward to winning again next year. But, it takes hard work, dedication and commitment to reach these goals. Don't wait till school starts to work on your skills and get your physical. Passing, overhand serving, setting and hitting will be evaluated at tryouts. Game knowledge( 6-2) will also be taken into consideration.

Private lessons or clinics are highly recommended. Ashley Jefferson @ www. peacelovevolleyball.com is the recommended camp.

Excellent Volleyball Training

I highly recommend private lessons with Ashley Jefferson. You can learn about her clinics, camps and private lessons on her website: www. peacelovevolleyball.com. Yes, she is my daighter.  She is highly knowledgeable and has played collegiate ball. Ashley has successfully coached many of my girls on my A teams. Her cost will be much cheaper than other camps and private lessons.

Track Meet Changed!

The Zone Championship April 18 and 19th was changed. Instead of the girls competing in field

events on Wed,... they will be competing in the running events while the boys compete in the field events.

On Thursday, the girls will be competing in field events while the boys compete in the running events. There will be a bus both days. However, if you need to take your child to the meet due to schedule conflicts or take your child home after their event, you will need to send a note to the Coach prior.., stating so.

Order of Events for Running:

400 relay, 800 run, 100Hurdles, 100 dash, 800 relay, 400 dash, 300hurdles, 200 dash, mile, mile relay.

It will be a late night on the running day.

 

Saturday Meets

All Saturday meets will have a charge of $5.00 per person. Excluding athletes and coaches of course.

You may bring food/water and lawn chairs. The athletes may leave after they have completed their event and tell their coach. Personal transportation is the parent responsibility. If you do not want your daughter/son to ride home with anyone else, please inform them. The meets on Saturdays run very long. All 19 middle schools will be present. The meet begins at 8 a.m. for field events and 10 a.m. for runners. The shedule for runners is as follows:

400m relay

800m dash

100 hurdles

100m dash

800m relay

400m dash

300 Hurdles

200 m dash

mile

mile relay

There will be several heats for each event. No one is allowed on the field except for the athletes. All spectators must remain on the bleachers.

 

Girls Track Meet Sat. 3/31

All athletes competing in the Saturday meet must provide their own ride to Nelson Field. Athletes competing in field events need to be there by 7:40 a.m. Runners need to be there by 9:30 a.m.

Please pack extra nutrional foods. It's a very long day! You should pack things like: water, peanut butter and banana or turkey sandwiches, oranges, nuts. A blanket and pillow, hand sanitizer,sunscreen,sunglasses and hats come in handy as well. If you have a pop up tent, please bring that to share with the team. A cooler filled with water/food etc. is acceptable. :)

Please do not skip breakfast! Eat a high carbohydrate dinner too! Hydrate your body with water before, during and after the meet!  There will be a concession stand that sells turkey legs, nachos, goodies etc.

ALL ATHLETES MUST HAVE A PHYSICAL FROM A PHYSICIAN ANUALLY.  YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TRY-OUT FOR ANY SPORT HERE AT MURCHISON WITHOUT DOCUMENTATION.  ANY PHYSICAL DATED BEFORE MAY 2010 WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED FOR THE 2011-2012 SCHOOL YEAR.
